The leaders of the US and Germany hope that tough sanctions against Russia will force it to respect international law and Ukraine's sovereignty. This Friday, April 27 during a joint press conference, said Donald Trump and Angela Merkel, according to the Voice of America.
They said this after the talks in the White House.
Answering journalists' questions, Trump and Merkel expressed a common position on sanctions against Russia, whose goal is to compel Russia to respect international law and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
It is noted that before the talks in the Oval Office began, during a brief press conference, President Trump confirmed that the agenda of the talks was the inter-Korean peace process, the Iranian issue, other problems of international security, and economic issues.
Later, at a joint press conference, President Trump noted the importance of US-German cooperation in ensuring international security, Euro-Atlantic cooperation and the economy.
As reported, the European Parliament is initiating new sanctions against Putin's entourage.
Earlier today, US State Department spokesman Heather Nauert said that Russia plays a destabilizing role in Ukraine, Georgia and Syria.
